Azerbaijan’s gas exports to Europe increased by more than 9% in 2024, reaching 12.9 billion cubic meters, according to a report from the Azerbaijani Ministry of Energy.
The country’s total natural gas production last year amounted to 13.3 billion cubic meters from the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli fields, 27.8 billion cubic meters from the Shah Deniz gas field, and 1.5 billion cubic meters from the Absheron field. The state-owned energy company SOCAR contributed 7.7 billion cubic meters to the total output. Compared to the previous year, Azerbaijan’s overall gas production increased by 2 billion cubic meters.
Azerbaijan’s total gas exports also grew, reaching 25.2 billion cubic meters, reflecting a 5.8% increase year-over-year. While deliveries to Europe rose to 12.9 billion cubic meters, exports to Turkey increased by 4.21% to 9.9 billion cubic meters, with 5.6 billion cubic meters transported via the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP). In contrast, exports to Georgia declined by 4%, totaling 2.4 billion cubic meters.
Since the start of production at the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli and Shah Deniz fields until January 1, 2025, Azerbaijan has extracted a total of 650 million tons of oil (including condensate) and 466.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas. Of these volumes, 648.3 million tons of oil and 169.5 billion cubic meters of gas were exported.
