On December 3, 2023, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) held a “Decarbonization Strategy and Future Prospects” event during COP-28 of the United Nations in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
As an honored event guest, Mukhtar Babayev, the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Azerbaijan Republic, delivered a detailed speech on the various works and programs implemented towards environmental protection and restoration of ecological balance in our country.
Rovshan Najaf, the President of SOCAR, welcomed the attendees and provided an overview of SOCAR’s environmental initiatives and objectives, specifically regarding reducing emissions in the medium and long term.
SOCAR President highlighted the company’s goals of achieving Zero Route Flaring, Zero Methane, and Net Zero emissions by 2050. Rovshan Najaf also underscored SOCAR’s progress towards becoming an exemplary environmental and socially responsible energy company.
SOCAR presented a comprehensive overview of its environmental protection activities at the event, including ongoing and future projects, green energy use in oil and gas operations, and strategic objectives for decarbonization and energy transition.
On the same day, an event was organized to discuss the implementation of “Carbon neutrality” in the Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur economic regions. Mukhtar Babayev, the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Azerbaijan Republic, and Rovshan Najaf, SOCAR President , delivered opening remarks at the event. The speeches highlighted ongoing restoration and reconstruction projects in Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur, promoting carbon neutrality through green energy, agriculture, and nature-friendly technologies.
A presentation was made on green energy potential in the Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur economic regions, current projects and future goals.
